The weather today was a bit iffy, but it was good since we all needed a break from the sun. We went out to breakfast this morning at Jardine’s, a restaurant at the Esterillos Town Center. While we all had different things, everyone’s meal included “gallo pinto”, a traditional Costa Rican dish. The name means “spotted rooster” and is a mixture of black beans and rice. Delicious for breakfast, lunch and dinner! While we were eating, another dog found our “dog whisperer” Darcy. She’s a canine magnet.
The winds changed a lot today, so there was a pretty stiff breeze coming off the ocean, which felt nice. Danny got a chance to use the kite he brought halfway across the globe. He was at for about 2 hours. This change also brought a lot of “stuff” onto the beach. Pretty much anything that was floating ended up on land. Mostly wood, but also some trash and plastic stuff. We saw a lot of single shoes and flip-flops. Even one kid’s size croc that was inhabited by a crab! We’re hopeful that the tides will pick up everything and our lovely coastline will be restored tomorrow.
Darcy was so happy to be able to fully swim again, now that she’s recovered from the ear infection. “Ah, that feels so good!”
In the afternoon, we finally got a better view of our resident Scarlet Macaws. We heard their loud squawking and were able to see five of them as they few over the house. Sylvia, our horse guide, told us they are drawn to the almond trees in our area.
At low tide, we drove down to Esterillos Ostre to see La Sirena. She’s a bronze mermaid statue that is out on a point far from shore. You can see her base at low tide, but at high tide, she looks like she is rising from the water. It was a slippery walk out to the statue and Zoe fell on the way out. A bit banged up on her legs, but she was OK. There are lots of tidal pools on the rocks, filled with crabs, fish and marine snails.
Danny and Darcy enjoyed a night swim and then another evening rainstorm cooled things off. Lots of lightening, thunder and heavy rains. Tomorrow- Ziplining and a trip to Jaco!

So happy Darcy has found some k-9 friends in Costa Rica.
