After our morning coffee, Danny and I drove down the beach road and then walked the beach on the other side of the Esterillos Este. Down that way, there are several beach hotels and many large homes, usually named “Casa de Someone”. I’d take one of these homes by any name!
On our way back to the house, some workers at the beachfront hotel on our side of Esterillos flagged us down. A sloth had made its weekly descent to do its business and was heading back to the treetops. The sloth looked really weird crawling on the grass. He is definitely made for the trees. When we got back, Danny got the girls and they drove down to see if they could also have a sloth sighting. It wasn’t quite as good, as he had already made it up to the top of the tallest tree. They move quicker than you would think!
We spent the rest of the morning using the boogie boards and enjoying the waves.
In afternoon, we drove back down the beach road to the CR Beach Barn for horseback riding on the beach. It was really special to ride on our beach, right past our house. The pair of Scarlet macaws that we’ve heard and seen glimpses of flew along the treetops near our house. We crossed over the estuary and rode on the beach and on a small beach road on the other side. Here the beach was much more pebbly than our beach. Our horses were well-behaved and our guide, Sylvia did a great job of helping us manage things and guiding Darcy’s horse during most of the ride. Zoe’s horse seemed to enjoy stopping for snacks along the way and then trotting to catch up with our group. She got really good at cantering! Darcy was able to ride on her own for the last part of the trip, which she really liked. She patted her horse whenever he did what she wanted.

Looking worried…

That’s our house!

Heading back to the barn…
After dinner at home, we drove to the next town over, Parrita, to try to find the frozen yogurt place that used to be in Esterillos Town Center. Success! We also stopped at the Maxi Pali there for a few things. A storm off the coast gave us a good light show at bedtime.

That is neat that you got to see a sloth on the ground. The beaches there are sooo wonderful there. Warm water, no crowds, natural shade.
