At the Beach…

Ahhh, paradise! We were so happy when the power came back on this morning. I was worrying a bit if we would be able to stay if the electricity stayed off for a while, but the appearance of a power company truck was a good sign that things would be repaired. The internet resumed a bit later, to the relief of both kids and adults. Since Darcy was still not feeling great, we took the day to hang out at the house and take it easy. We swam in the pool and hung out on the beach. The wildlife was entertaining.

Darcy was in dog heaven when a chihuahua from down the road appeared and “claimed” her. His name is now “Brownie”. We all have missed our Maggie. Darcy also loved when we walked down to the river that comes into the ocean and had a “spa time” by pouring the fine mud on our legs. It felt really nice. Zoe liked hanging out under the palm trees and petting “little Maggie”. For dinner, we took the long beach road back to the main drag and went to the Esterillos Town Center.

We were able to pick up some children’s Tylenol, ice cream and some other things at the market and ate at the one of the few restaurants that seemed to be open. Maybe it was that is was a Monday night or maybe that it’s the off season, but it feels a bit deserted around here. We’ve seen a few people on the beach but nothing like a summer day at home.

On way back to the house along the beach road, I shouted for Danny to stop the car when I saw a huge snake stretched across the middle of the road. We were able to take a few pictures as he slithered across the road into the brush. Once we got back to the house, we looked up the 130 different types of snakes in Costa Rica to try to figure out what it was. Based on the color and pattern, our best guess was that it was the Fer-de-lance, the most highly venomous snake of the bunch. Yikes! If that’s the case, I hope we don’t encounter him again.

We have a few items on our itinerary – horseback riding on the beach, zip-lining and a trip to Manuel Antonio National Park, but no hard plans. We’re hoping that Darcy will be feeling better soon so she can enjoy them too.
